Online Press Releases – Top 10 Tips

January 4, 2011 by Podcast Marketing Leave a Comment

By Jamie Fairbairn

Is it newsworthy?

This should be your first consideration when thinking about using an online press release to promote your business. For example, if you’ve developed an innovative new product for the plumbing market and want national exposure then a press release would be a great idea. On the other hand if you’ve bought a new van or taken on another plumber, it’s not going to be newsworthy enough to be published anywhere other than your own website.

Hire a copywriter to write it for you

If you have the budget and haven’t written one before it’s wise to hire a professional copywriter. Someone with experience in crafting press releases will be able to portray your company in the best light and get the best results from your release.

Use quality images

Some online press release services such as PRWeb.com allow you to embed an image before it’s distributed. It’s very important to make sure you include a high quality image that portrays your business in a professional way.

How to choose anchor text links

With an online press release you’ll also usually be able to have clickable anchor text links from the release back to your own website. It’s crucial you choose the right keyword or phrase for this to get the most benefit in terms of SEO. For example, using click here isn’t descriptive and won’t deliver any benefit whereas if you’re a London Plumber and have plumber in London as your anchor text it will have more impact.

Think about your target market

In order to get the most from your release you’ll need to think carefully about who you want to send it to. For example if you’re a rel=nofollow [http://www.localremoval.co.uk/]removals company in Glasgow there’s little point in sending your press release internationally, you’d get much better results by focusing on the areas in and around your city by contacting local publications.

Check Google News for your industry

There are lots of online press release distribution services out there and it can be hard to decide which one to use. A good way to do this is search the news feed on Google for your industry and see what appears; these will have the name of the company that distributed them so you’ll be able to see instantly which sites get results.

Social media is a powerful outlet

Lots of online release distribution sites will automatically add your release to social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook which increases exposure and can lead to more coverage for your business.

How to check if your press release worked

Being able to track clickthroughs to your website is invaluable when it comes to measuring effectiveness. A good press release distribution service will provide this as part of their package so it’s quick and easy for you to measure your ROI.

Submit to one distribution site only

If you don’t want to bombard people with multiple copies of your press release it’s best to just submit yours via one online service as many will have the same contacts on their list of recipients.

Promote your release yourself too

By adding your latest press release to the news section of your website and including a link to it in your email signature, you can easily increase the number of people who’ll read it online.

Technology Makes it Easy to Be the Star of Your Own Internet Radio Show

December 14, 2010 by Podcast Marketing Leave a Comment

By Darla Blackmon -

Dreaming of becoming a star? There is no better time than now to do just that. Tens of thousands of people all across the United States are starting their own Internet radio shows – for free. The world of Internet radio broadcasting is available to anyone with an Internet connection and a burning desire to have their voices, opinions, or music heard worldwide by millions of listeners.

Several sites are available for those wishing to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a star on the radio. One of the fastest growing and most popular sites is Blog Talk Radio. To use the free program, all that is needed is a phone and a computer with an Internet connection. There is no software to download, an optional shared revenue program, and the ability to chat with listeners after the live show. Hosts can receive up to five guests or listeners on the radio show each episode. A variety of promotional tools and other widgets come with the free package as well. Using this free tool is a great way to get your feet wet in the world of radio broadcasting.

Blog Talk Radio also has a premium package that costs a mere $39 per month. Once you’ve outgrown the free package, this is a fantastic option to go even further toward stardom. This package allows the host to screen callers in a private room right from the switchboard, host the show with a headset and computer (no phone necessary), upload pre-recorded podcasts and more.

There are many other sites that offer free services for the aspiring radio broadcast star. One such site that has gotten great reviews from users is ubroadcast. This station manager software is free and very easy to setup. It takes no more than five minutes to complete the process. A ubroadcast station manager can host a live internet talk radio show complete with play list support, podcast uploading, and other content that may be pre-recorded. Another totally free site is icecast. This site is a bit more technical and raw, but totally free and contains lots of ways to promote the radio show through social media networking sites.

A couple of other sites that have garnered good reviews from users, but cost a minimal amount of money to use include Pirate Radio and Peercast. Users of Pirate Radio claim it is easy to use and comes with a lot of supportive promotional tools and widgets. Both require a one-time fee that is under $30 to register.

Hosts can archive past shows as mp3 files or podcasts and offer them on iTunes for sale or for free. There are currently well over 500,000 podcasts on iTunes and millions of downloads. Using a simple spreadsheet or table can help the host with a busy schedule keep track of and manage upcoming shows. Time management and organizational skills will be important once the show becomes more popular, and interviews with popular guests more frequent.

Many people have made lucrative careers for themselves through the growing Internet radio broadcasting industry. Some broadcast opinions, ideas, and interviews for profit, and others spread various messages including charitable ministries, etc. Ryan Dobson, son of the famed Dr. James Dobson, has just begun his Internet radio show called, Family Talk.

Whatever the subject matter, dreams of becoming a star through the free Internet radio broadcasting tools available today are a true reality.

Swoop’s World is a Long Beach Radio talk show broadcast over the Internet every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Get all the details at http://www.swoopsworld.com.

Radio Talk Show Techniques – Publicizing Your Appearance – Differentiating Yourself From the Rest

December 14, 2010 by Podcast Marketing Leave a Comment

By Anna D. Banks -

Radio is a great way to differentiate you from the rest of your competitors.

Radio offers a unique opportunity to promote your products or services with a captive audience. There are 200 million American commuters that listen to the radio every day when going to and from their work. Statistics say 96% of the US population listens to the radio at least once a week and 75% listen to the radio every day. You cannot reach this audience in any other way. Moreover, with the development of technology, your radio talk can reach consumers all over the world. You can use Internet radio stations like BlogTalkRadio.com to reach consumers internationally, as new listeners sign up for it every day using RSS feeds.

Radio is a very cost-efficient way to advertise your products or services. You don’t need to spend money on issuing flyers, looking good (even though you need to sound good), or paying high advertising costs. The costs of being on the radio are relatively cheap compared to those of other media.

Radio is a great way to get some publicity. You can use the radio host’s expertise to persuade consumers that your products or services are great. You will gain some credibility and recognition just by talking to a famous person. Radio gives an opportunity to be in charge of your own success. On the radio it is you who is discussing the issues of your own business, and no one knows more about your own business than you. It is a good idea to take some phone calls from listeners. By answering their questions and explaining how your products or services satisfy their needs you will sound as an expert. You can also use references to your radio interview later on to promote your business.

Radio is a great way to establish media relationships, because if you perform well, you may be asked to go on a show again. Opportunities of getting sponsorship and promotions also multiply.

Internet Talk Radios- Gaining Popularity Worldwide

December 14, 2010 by Podcast Marketing Leave a Comment

By Alfred Anderson -

Discussion on various topical issues ranging from sports to entertainment, or hardcore politics has long been a major draw among the audience. Such discussions conducted with a panel of experts on a talk show are something that most of us find irresistible. What has made the talk shows click is the increased degree of listener participation involved in a show. The audience can voice their opinions and pose questions to the panel anytime during the show. With the introduction of Internet based talk radio stations, talk shows have now become even more interactive and cost effective in terms of production.

Internet talk radios are flexible and have a wider accessibility. Listeners can be stationed anywhere in the world but still can listen to and interact on the talk show programs. All they need is a computer and Internet connection to begin with. Apart from that the cost effective nature of Internet talk radios has made it a profitable business option for many entrepreneurs. As compared to the traditional radios, Internet talk radios are a way ahead in technology and usability. The advertisements can be transmitted in between the breaks of a program as well as during the show at a corner of the webpage. The increasing Internet usage among the audience can only improve viewership count and increase the page views thereby resulting in more ad revenues.

The technology involved in the distribution of Internet talk radio shows is through streaming technology. The data are transmitted over the network in the form of small data packets (TCP/ UDP), which are then compiled together, and played. The streaming technology uses audio codecs (a program that compresses and decompresses digital audio data). The common way to stream is by using lossy audio codec. Among the most popular codecs is the MP3 codec along with Ogg Vorbis, Real Audio and Widows Media Audio.

Internet talk radios will evolve in terms of technology and interactivity in the years to come. A few years back, not many had even heard of an Internet talk radio, but this is now turning into an entertainment and advertising medium as well. A wide audience base, increasing popularity, superior technology and good advertisement revenues will surely make Internet talk radios a way of life.

5 Great Interview Tips For Internet Radio Show Hosts

December 14, 2010 by Podcast Marketing Leave a Comment

By Tania Baildon -

You’ve got a great radio show, but you want to make it even better. How do you make those interviews with your great guests really pop? Here are my top 5 tips for a great interview.

Tip #1. Know Your Guest

You had to have some reason to have this person on your show, so presumably you know something about them, but the more you know, the more likely you are to get the kind of interview you want. You don’t need to know what kind of tea the drink (unless you are interviewing them in person) but you do need to know about the subject you will be asking them about. Listen to other interviews they have done if you can. Read their book, or at least a synopsis. Check out their website. Who is this person, and what do they have to offer to your audience?

Tip #2. What do your listeners want to know?

You have a lot in common with your audience or they wouldn’t listen to your show. What things do you really want to know about this guest and/or their subject? Whether it is personal or professional, if you want to know it, then your audience probably does too. What first intrigued you about this guest? Why did you want them on your show? Use your most burning questions to get your audience what they want to hear.

Tip #3. Have your Questions Ready

Often guests will have a list of questions they would like to be asked. If you your burning questions aren’t on their list, send your questions to them. Unless you like controversy on your show or enjoy shocking guests, it is best that both parties know what will get asked. It is fine to have follow up questions on the same subject, just don’t hit them with things like, “So, I hear you are getting a divorce!” unless you never want to interview this person (or any of their friends) again. Use your list of questions to keep you on track during the interview.

Tip #4. Set Your Audience’s Expectations

What do you want your listeners to get out of this interview? Make sure in your advertising beforehand that you set your audience expectations accordingly. If they come in expecting a hard hitting interview and you give them fluff, they won’t keep listening. If they are expecting a spiritual experience and you hit them with hard science, even about spirituality, it will jar them. Make sure that your audience expects the experience you plan to give them.

Tip #5. Know Your Guest’s Products/Books

Your guest is an expert in their field. Otherwise, why would you be interviewing them? Know enough about that field to ask intelligent questions. If their latest book just came out, take the time to read it. Your show isn’t all about selling, but if your audience is interested in the subject, let them know where they can get more if it. Make sure your guest knows that this interview is not all about selling. You want good information and something useful your audience can have now, not just hype and a promise of more if they buy something. The more information your audience gets, the more likely they are to want more. Make sure your guest knows that, too.

How to Promote Your Talk Radio Show

December 14, 2010 by Podcast Marketing Leave a Comment

By Sean R Mize -

All The Normal Internet Ways To Promote A Site

Before I jump into this, I want you to know it is good to get a few shows, actually 4 or 5 already done before you actually go full bore on promoting your show.

Promoting your Internet Talk Radio Show site at TalkShoe, online and in the search engines is just like promoting any other website so I’m not going to spend a lot of time going into website promotion. You can do all the regular online promotion like getting back links through authority sites, putting up your search engine optimized blog, submitting articles to article directories, putting links in your forum signature files, and on and on and on. And it will all work if you have not done any of those kinds of things to promote a site yet.

So I do want you to know it is not only possible to promote your actual page on TalkShoe, but your TalkShoe Blog and a separate blog that is all search engine optimized that you run in tandem with those sites.

Promoting Your Shows As Podcasts

So the real question you should be asking is not how to I get more people to my live show, (Though you really want those too), but how do I attract more listeners to my show?” The answers is Podcasts. As a beginner or pro, we all share the same desire – to build our listener base.

If you are offering quality informative content in a professional manner someone is interested in, you don’t want them to just be able to hear it on your schedule, (When you show airs), but on their schedule; any time they want to listen. Do you really care when they listen, as long as they do listen. Because when they do listen, they are not only hearing what they perceive as expert information, but they are also hearing what this expert recommends. (Which you just happen to make money on.) And that situation is what Pod Casting allows for. You having an ever growing audience that not only loves your show but loves being able to listen to it whenever they want to.

They can listen on their computer, burn you Pod Cast onto a CD an play it in the car on the way to work, download it as an MP3, put it on their iPod and listen to your show when they are jogging, or at the gym or where ever and whenever. Now that is media distribution.

By the way, do you want to learn more about using articles like this to drive traffic to your website and increase online conversions?
